babyballet Croydon‘s newest dance franchisee – She attended one of the world’s most respected dance institutions, the Italia Conti Academy of Theatre Arts in London.
The 31-year-old mum-of-two is opening her own babyballet dance academy in Croydon next month (September). It’s a dream come true for Kirsty who was at the Italia School from the ages of 10 to 21, and did theatre and show work around the UK when she graduated.
babyballet® is the UK’s leading pre-school dance academy. It was set up by mum-of-four Claire O’Connor of Yorkshire in 2005. She spotted a gap in the market for non-competitive dance classes that not only accepted the best, and the business has gone from strength to strength, and two years ago went international. The programme is now available in Australia and New Zealand, and Claire and her husband, Chris, and their children are now on a world tour introducing babyballet to other countries.
In the UK it has 75 franchisees (all women) with over 25,000 youngsters attending hundreds of classes every week.
Kirsty has taken on the franchisee for Croydon East and West and will open her doors on September 10. Her first two pupils will be her children, five-year-old Jude and three-year-old Indie.. And her biggest supporter, her husband, Glenn.
Kirsty, who hails from Surrey, started dancing when she was three and has been teaching since she was a teenager, even helping out at the Italia Conti school. She had a break for a few years when she worked as cabin crew for Virgin Atlantic, but after her children, returned to teaching full time and worked for Stagecoach Performing Arts School.
She first came across babyballet when Indie started classes in Surrey, and she says she knew instantly she wanted to get involved. “It’s the most amazing company. Children get a strong foundation in dance but retain that all important element of fun. Research shows babies are born to dance and it helps improve everything from their coordination to their confidence and listening skills,” says Kirsty who has ran several marathons in her time and is passionate about fitness as well as dance.
Her new classes are for boys and girls from six months to six years and are being held at Ashburton Hall, Lower Addiscombe Road and Kidspace Croydon. She has an introductory offer of £15 for a three week class and says she can’t wait to pass her knowledge on to a new generation of dancers.
“I love dance with a passion and have made so many friends through it. I know youngsters and parents are going to enjoy my new classes and I hope within six months to expand and bring in more teachers.”
